Performance Coach

For dance, theater and circus productions

Since the making of my first dance and theater piece in Berlin in 2014, I have searched for people who could accompany my artistic productions and enable the performers to access their full potential. Over the last decade, I have become a passionate researcher of performativity, and since 2022, I myself have started to accompany artistic productions as a performance coach.

How does the work happen?

Based on the needs of each project, I offer a group warm-up geared towards awakening readiness and creativity. I then work with performers individually or as a group using various approaches and modalities to support them throughout their creative process. For instance, I work with performers on challenging sections or aspects of the piece. I also take care that each individual and the whole group can access their readiness, creativity and presence to perform the materials of the piece and face its challenges.

Questions?

Šmitaitė gave the performers an invaluable toolbox which carried each of them through the demanding work while keeping them curious, never going into the 'default mode'. Grėtė's specific tasks and gentle guidance allowed each performer to engage with the material in their own way while remaining faithful to the aesthetic and conceptual frame of the proposal.  As a choreographer, I felt how important it was to have another person working with 'performing' as a practice. It solidified their presence in the work and in turn made the proposal much stronger.

Choreographer and dance lecturer. P.A.R.T.S. and BA in Philosophy, University of Leuven, alumni
I deeply appreciated the detailed and investigative approach that Grėtė brought to our work together. It allowed me to reconnect with the origins of each dance move, deepening my understanding of my character in the piece. Her ability to meet me where I was in the research process was remarkable, and her concise yet insightful feedback and questions opened the door to exploring new areas of my artistic practice in a safe and genuine way.

Linutė Puodžiukaitė, LT

Dancer, choreographer and dance lecturer; for many years the head of Čiurlionis Arts Academy Department for Dance

When unforeseen situations arose during the performance, the preparation before, with Grėtė, helped to find a quick solution. As a performance coach Grėtė not only helps choreographer's ideas to be fulfilled. She also creates a positive and supportive space, when working with the dancers, which is especially needed during the intensive rehearsal period.
